Hi, I'm Sharon Dohse, and I have the privilege of teaching first grade at Alturas Elementary.

After I graduated from Idaho State University, I traveled extensively before I settled down. My travels opened my mind more than my hometown university ever could. It also opened the door to my teaching career, which began in Czechia. I taught children in grade school, middle school as well as adults. I would later teach in Indonesia, Guatemala and Mexico. I learned pieces and parts of many languages during my travels, but it was during my three years in Mexico and Guatemala that I learned and embraced Spanish as my second language. During that time, I learned first-hand how hard it can be to learn a second language. I also know what a lifelong treasure learning a second language is. 

When I returned to Idaho and moved to the Wood River Valley, I was fortunate to find a position teaching English to adults in the evening through CSI. Some of those students are now my co-workers or their children have been my students.

I absolutely love teaching first grade. It is a year of explosive growth! Learning Spanish in addition to learning curriculum in Spanish is an enormous undertaking at any age. It brings me so much joy to accompany our valley's first grade youth during this pivotal year of their educational journey.

Hola, soy Sharon Dohse y tengo el privilegio de enseñar primer grado en la escuela primaria Alturas.

Tras graduarme en la Universidad Estatal de Idaho, viajé mucho antes de establecerme. Mis viajes me abrieron la mente mucho más de lo que jamás podría haberlo hecho mi universidad en mi ciudad natal. También me abrieron las puertas a mi carrera docente, que comenzó en la República Checa. Enseñé a niños de primaria y secundaria, así como a adultos. Posteriormente, enseñé en Indonesia, Guatemala y México. Aprendí fragmentos de muchos idiomas durante mis viajes, pero fue durante mis tres años en México y Guatemala cuando aprendí y adopté el español como mi segundo idioma. Durante ese tiempo, experimenté de primera mano lo difícil que puede ser aprender un segundo idioma. También sé lo valioso que es aprender un segundo idioma para toda la vida.

Cuando regresé a Idaho y me mudé al valle de Wood River, tuve la suerte de encontrar un puesto como profesor de inglés para adultos por las noches a través de CSI. Algunos de esos estudiantes ahora son mis compañeros de trabajo o sus hijos fueron mis alumnos.

Me encanta enseñar primer grado. ¡Es un año de crecimiento vertiginoso! Aprender español, además de seguir el currículo en español, es un reto enorme a cualquier edad. Me llena de alegría acompañar a los niños de primer grado de nuestro valle durante este año crucial de su trayectoria educativa.
